Gel covers three different services, and the right one depends on whether you want length. A gel manicure is colour on your natural nail, cured under a lamp for a high-shine finish. Gel-X is a soft-gel tip adhered to the whole nail, adding length as well as colour. Builder gel strengthens and slightly extends the natural nail.

How long do gel nails last?
Standard gel polish generally lasts two to three weeks before it starts to lift or grow out. Gel-X extensions typically last around three to four weeks, similar to SNS dip powder, because the tip covers the whole nail and moves with it. Builder gel sits between the two and is usually refilled at around three weeks.
Gel-X vs builder gel vs acrylic
Gel-X uses a pre-shaped soft-gel tip bonded over the entire nail, so it is lighter and needs less filing than acrylic. Builder gel is painted on to reinforce your own nail and add a little length. Acrylic is the most rigid and the best choice for significant length. All three can be shaped into almond, coffin or square finishes.
